New Venue for OpenCoffee Dublin?

Looking for suggestions for a new venue for OpenCoffee - any ideas are welcome.

We’ve tried to do live broadcasting without much success due to wifi issues and loudness issues, as The Morrison, while they make great coffee, is quite a large and loud venue with off-and-on wifi and without many electrical outlets.

Suggestions anyone?  I am planning on bringing a RoundTable camera for live conferencing next week, so would like a good venue for this to work better.

 Thanks!

I attended a course in Filmbase in Temple Bar yesterday. They have a cafe on the first floor with good coffee. There was a wifi router on the wall of the cafe though I didn’t get to check if it is open. It was quiet in the morning though quite busy by lunch.

That’s not a bad idea, Damien. Haven’t checked the wifi either. It’s might still be a little loud and echoy.

I haven’t checked that either, but will be by there this weekend & scope it out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Eoghan, I agree it might be a bit loud - don’t they have an upstairs or something? Might be mildly better?

I used to study there when it was called the Art House. I hated it with passion, its so noisy! I love the brightness of The Morrison, if they only fixed the Wi-Fi. Not sure what other venue is there, does the Market Bar or The Globe have Wi-Fi? (I think they do, but you need vouchers, or a friendly barman that gives them away!)

It might be a little far out for some but KC Peaches on Pearse Street have decent wi-fi and great coffee and pastries.

I’m really glad we’re having this conversation. The wifi in The Morrison has been an ongoing problem. Even though their IT Manager has repeatedly said that it’s being looked at, some ‘insider info’ told me that the wifi is just one of many systems problems being experienced by that hotel. It’s going to take a lot of money to address them and that ain’t going to happen soon!

Suggestions - I agree with Damien, give Filmbase a try. Good coffee and a great range of interesting teas too! The person to talk to there is Alessandro 6796716 There’s also the training room (with macs and great connection speeds) for a break-out/presentation room should we ever need that.

The Market Bar is iffy re. wifi.

The Globe is a good idea.
There’s also Brookes Hotel on Drury St. Good wifi. Nice enough coffee, excellent service.

I love KC Peaches, but I agree with Ken, it’s a bit far from the city centre.

Are we meeting this Thursday in The Morrison for one last time??

Wow, thanks Maryrose for the great information!

Filmbase sounds great - I think we should give it a try.

Lets do one last finale in the Morrison this week, get a few more ideas perhaps and then next time we’ll try Filmbase?

Just as an FYI - here’s the website for the Filmbase cafe: http://www.filmbase.ie/cafe/index.php

The top balcony inside the IFI–does it have wifi? If the infrastructure was in place, the IFI would be quieter than auld arthouse.

The Raddisson on Golden Lane is pretty good. Excellent for Wifi and plenty of space. We ran our Bootcamp there back in April and I was very impressed.

I can call them to see if they’d open the sky bar for us.

Hi Bernie, I don’t know about the IFI balcony, but I like that spot too. Their website doesn’t mention anything about it: http://ifi.ie/index_121.asp I will give them a call and see what they say.

Hi Lar, that would be great! Would you give them a call and see what they say? Thanks so much!!

Just an update - confirmed with the IFI’s cafe/restaurant that they do *not* have wi-fi.

The Digital Depot here in the hub has a very funky Web 2.0 Cafe and WIFI. If you are interested I could get the Digital Hub to endorse and support this initiative, we might even get them to pay for coffee!

I was just about to say - Digital Hub. You’d get a lot more attendees to.

Digital Hub is a great idea, there wifi is great. Also when you are done, I can get free tickets to the Silicon Ireland event at the City North Hotel, Dublin. Startup pitches, vator.tv pitch booth and networking opportunities.
