Dakota is a Win

I just got back from our first OpenCoffee at Dakota with 30 other OpenCoffee attendees.  The feedback on the venue has been fantastic.  People really liked the large, open space and the city centre location.  And the fact that it was only OpenCoffee-teers there made it very easy to find people and catch up with them.

Thanks to little black card for a great overview of their organization and for handing out cards to everyone.

The bar in the middle was a great space to prop up a laptop and show off what you’re working on, and we had a few nice demos from people like Echodio.

Thanks again to everyone for attending, and we’ll see you in May at Dakota.

Saturday OpenCoffee Club Meetup Location Change

During our last Saturday meetup, there was a lot of discussion about changing venue, as NYG is not very suitable for large group discussions and many people have issues finding seats and joining the conversations they want to join.

We’re looking for a fairly large venue that can easily hold 20-30 people, offers coffee/treats/breakfast goodies, and has decent wifi.  A bonus would be the option to book off a separate room.

I’m happy to call around and ask venues but I need more suggestions.  I tried the Science Gallery but they don’t open until noon on Saturdays.

Ideas?  Please leave them in the comments below or e-mail them to me at martharo [at] microsoft.com.

Thanks.

IIA Web Development Working Group Survey

Many of the folks that attend OpenCoffee meetups are web designers, developers and business decision makers.  You may be interested to know that the Irish Internet Association (http://www.iia.ie/) Web Development Working Group have created a survey to find out more about what people would like to have the working group address.

If you have a couple of minutes, please click this link to fill out the survey and give them the valuable feedback they need.

From their blog:

  • Among a number of issues that were discussed the Working Group decided that they needed to get a better idea of what you, the IIA members and readers, would like from them. To this end they have created a short survey on the topics you would like them to address in their work. They hope to receive responses from a broad range of businesses in many sectors so no matter what area your work focusses your response is important. It also includes some demographic questions which will give them a better idea of your business background and therefore they will be able to ensure that their outputs are developed accordingly.

Virtual OpenCoffee on Saturday

This is just a quick note to say that there are plans in the works for a Virtual OpenCoffee this coming Saturday, March 7th.  We will have details tomorrow regarding times & URL, so check back for all the details tomorrow and make sure to leave some time free Saturday.

Saturdays are a hit - how about once a month?

This past Saturday saw the first ever OpenCoffee Club Dublin meeting in NYG in the IFSC.

As a regular attendee of OpenCoffee, I was surprised and delighted to see many new faces, some new to OpenCoffee and some I had never met before.  It was excellent, and there was not much overlap from the Thursday events which made me realize we need to keep this going.

The feedback from the event has been good, so while I had been thinking we would do this once a quarter on Saturdays, I proposed once a month.  People seemed to think this is reasonable, but I’d like feedback from others as well.

Is once a month on Saturdays too frequent?  It would be at the expense of one of the Thursdays, as I don’t know that we could sustain three events per month and still attract decent crowds.  So my proposal is: first Thursday of the month at Digital Hub and third Saturday of the month at NYG.

Thoughts?

Saturday It Is - Please Vote:

Okay we had a great response to the idea of Saturday OpenCoffee in Dublin, so the next order of business is choosing a day.  Please use the poll below, courtesy of polldaddy.com, to indicate which day would work better for you.

As an FYI we’re planning around brunch time, so it would be starting at 10:30 or 11-ish and then continue on as long as folks care to stay.

New York Grind seems to be an ideal location, but please use the comments below to suggest other suitable brunch spots (with wifi).

Thanks all for your participation & interest.

Which Saturday in September works best for OpenCoffee Dublin?

A Change of Day?

Earlier this week and yesterday at OpenCoffee Dublin we’ve been having discussions on trying an alternate day.  For September we’re going to try having a Saturday morning OpenCoffee.  Which days would suit people best?  Please add your comments about dates & times below.

We’re thinking of using the New York Grind, but are open to other suggestions.  Thoughts?
